Sandblaster modifications

We've had the old HF sandblaster for 20 years but it's time to update it. There's a new gun kit with suction tube and carbide tip supposed to be here this afternoon. We're gonna turn it Made in USA.

Nick has already done this to his and said it made a huge difference. The Carbide tip will outlast 30 ceramics making it way cheaper in the long run. Will put up pics of the actual stuff when it arrives.

We also just got finished with a $4 light upgrade from the local hardware store. The best thing we ever did.

Sandra has been blasting like the wind. The light is awesome with just a little 13 watt twisty in there and then new gun is awesome. It is way faster, maybe 4-5 times faster. Pretty much as fast as you can go.

I should get a cabinet, do mine outside.

There are plans out there to build your own out of plywood. They look really nice when finished. You can buy a kit with the glass and such to build your own. We've thought about doing one just to have something a little bigger for the hoods and rear pans.

Looks like a nice mod...I may have to look into that. We have one of the small hf cabinets I run glass bead in and it does ok with the chinese guns, but the bigger one we run coal slag in and it does not do so well with the gun it has in it, Only works about half of the time your using it and sprays very slow, to do a 6-12 rim takes about 40 mins. The tungsten carbide nozzles are definitely worth the cost though. I used to go through a nozzle in about 2 weeks, and I've had a carbide one in there for a couple years now. How well would you say these guns work compared to the original gun it came with from harbor freight? Also, what are you using for media and dust collection? Thanks, Jake

The new gun has a smooth action and little resistance to the trigger. It will spray at higher pressures also. At over 80lbs the HF gun wouldn't even come on. The gun also seems to use less air for some reason, the compressor actually shuts off if you stop to grab the next part in the cabinet. I don't know what they've done but they've done it very well. Maybe it has something to do with the made in USA thing also.

i did a upgrade at took away the squeze trigger and added a foot pedal
then even to out last carbide tips i made a hastelloy C tip that lasted now going on a year
with about 6-8 hours a week of use and filled with black beauty media.
